VACUUM BAG TECHNOLOGY

Apex’s Vacuum Bag Technology is used to create every Apex Board. It is an advanced construction process used to maximize strength and eliminate weight. The theory behind the technology is to pack as much fiber into the board and remove as much resin as possible. The board’s fiberglass material is compacted with three to four tons of force. Meanwhile, dedicated vacuum channels extract excess resin directly from the board during the curing process. This process is so effective that the board can have additional fiber reinforcement without any weight penalty. This is how APEX boards are the strongest and the lightest.

VACUUM MOLD (AVAC Series & Hand Planes)

Apex’s Vacuum Mold Technology is used to create our Apex AVAC skimboards and Hand Planes. A custom mold is utilized in this manufacturing process. It gives a more perfect board at an economical cost. The molds used in the AVAC Series have been carefully designed and refined to retain all of the excellent benefits of our Apex Pro boards and our Vacuum Bag Technology.

REINFORCED CONSTRUCTION

Along with Vacuum Technology we use the HIGHEST QUAILTY material including Woven E-glass in every Apex skimboard. We use the best foam, resins, pigments, etc. All of our boards are designed to take a beating. Our RAIL REINFORCEMENT features a wrapped and overlapped rail design with no staples. Our REINFORCED NOSE & TAIL further protects it from damage. This again, sets the APEX LINE of SKIMBOARDS apart from the rest.

BUILDING MATERIALS - Options for Pro Boards

E-Glass provides a very strong and flexible board and is the most common fiber reinforcement used in high end boards

Carbon Fiber is three times as strong as E-Glass and is the industry standard for advanced riders. It’s bonded with epoxy resin to maximize the rebound when the board is flexed.

All Pro Boards have three layers of woven E-glass fiberglass cloth on each side of the foam.  They feature a double wrapped rail.  Premium Carbon boards add a 1/4″ thick carbon rail band, adding longevity and durability to the rail design.

All AVACs are made with multiple layers of woven E-Glass fiberglass and a high density foam core.  It is based on the proven technology of the Original Shape.  The rocker has been perfectly tuned for each of the sizes, allowing every board to have a fast and smooth transition from the sand to the waves.

RAIL DESIGN

Apex Skimboards Standard rail is a slightly pinched radius rail.  It offers a very smooth ride down the face of the wave and works best in any condition.  The rail has a gradual radius from the top to about 1/8 inch from the bottom, where it drops straight down.  The bottom of every Apex Skimboard rail comes standard with a tuck under bottom rail design to hold the line.  All AVAC boards come with a Standard rail design.  Boxy and Tapered rails are available on request on E-glass and Carbon boards.  Boxy rails will grip the edge of the wave better, while tapered rails will feel loose and slide on the edge of the wave.  Apex offers any combination of rail design across the entire perimeter of the board.

CORE THICKNESS - Pro Options

5/8 inch Foam Core provides a sensitive and responsive ride and offers all around performance (standard)

3/4 inch Foam Core adds extra flotation and can be tapered to 5/8 inch in the nose and tail

CORE THICKNESS - AVAC Options

The AVAC series has been designed with specific core thickness for each size. Careful consideration has been taken to account for the rider’s age, weight and experience. The core thickness is optimized to give the perfect float, flex and feel. The thin 1/4 inch core on the AVAC 36″ is perfect for those who are getting their first taste of skimming. It is best for sand skimming along the shore. The AVAC 41″ increases the core to 3/8 inch to allow the sand skimmer to make their first transition to wave riding. Real wave riding begins with the 1/2 inch thick AVAC 46″. Finally the 5/8 inch core of the AVAC 51″ is exactly the same as our Apex 51″ Original skimboard.
